MDRRMO Malay, geared up for any calamities, says DILG

The Malay Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) is all geared up for any calamities that may arise.

This according to Malay Local Government Operations Officer (MLGOO) V Mark Delos Reyes is based on their assessment during the celebration of the National Disaster Consciousness Month in July.

Delos Reyes said that another proof would be MDRRMO Malay championing the 1st Joeben Miraflores Rescue Olympics held in Kalibo last July 25.

He added that the team’s rescue equipments are almost complete.

Delos Reyes again reassured the MDRRMO’s prompt response whenever calamites occur in Malay and Boracay.

Malay emerged as champion in 1st Joeben Miraflores Rescue Lympics 2014

The town of Malay emerged as champion in 1st Joeben Miraflores Rescue Lympics 2014 conducted on July 25 at the town of Kalibo.

According to Catherine Ong of MDRRMO the competition was participated by 12 municipalities in Aklan.

She added that the competition has Four categories which our Best Extrication, Best in Rescue Equipment Display, Best in Uniform and Best in Fire Fighting with seven participants from each town.

Meanwhile, the town of Malay participants had one week training with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and some trained volunteers.

Malay mayor John Yap himself also extended his greetings to the team.

Tourism still banners Aklan economy

Tourism still continues to anchor Aklan’s provincial economy with tourist arrivals in Boracay for the first three months of this year already hitting the 383,476 mark, about thirty (30) percent of the total 2013 arrivals of 1,363,601.

The Boracay tourism performance undoubtedly is the highest in the region and augurs well to the Philippine economy.

The positive growth rate of tourist arrivals for January to March 2014 when compared with the arrival figures for the first three months of last year are indicative that Aklan tourism continues to be in the upswing, said Aklan Governor Florencio T. Miraflores.

Miraflores said that Boracay Island now becoming a top cruise shipping destination of the country will further boost tourism developments in the island paradise.

In 2014, ten cruise ships are scheduled to drop anchor in Boracay bringing in some 12,000 passengers and 7,702 crew members.

Boracay had been named one of the most sought travel destinations of the world by several influential and prestigious travel magazines of the world.

NOC to put Floating hospital in Boracay

The National Ocular Inspection Team (NOC) is going to put a floating hospital in Boracay.

This is in line with the APEC Summit 2015 that is expected to be held in the island Boracay.

According to DOT Boracay Officer In-Charge Tim Ticar, the floating hospital will be put on the beach area while the Boracay hospital is now under renovation.

Some nurses and doctors in the island were even advised to take care of patients that are not necessarily to be brought to the floating hospital.

Meanwhile, 2, 000 participants including media and their families are estimated for the said event.

Different organizations in Boracay, participates in bloodletting activity of PRC Boracay-Malay Chapter

About 94 successful blood donors gladly shared the fun in the conduct of bloodletting activity yesterday.

Such activity is a project of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) in cooperation with the Boracay Island Water Company (BIWC), Panay Andoks, YES FM and Easy Rock Boracay to help mothers, in need of blood.

It is still associated with the celebration of Blood Donors’ Month this July with the theme "Safe Blood for Saving Mothers".

Among the successful blood donors came from LGU, Malay, PNP, Coastguard, Yes FM and Easy Rock Boracay and BIWC.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross expresses their gratitude for the tireless support of various organizations that helped their advocacies.

BIWC, Philippine Red Cross and Panay Andok’s, launches blood donation drive

The Boracay Island Water Company (BIWC), Panay Andoks and Philippine Red Cross Boracay-Malay Chapter come launches blood donation drive.

This is in line with the celebration of Blood Donors’ Month this July with the theme "Safe Blood for Saving Mothers".

BIWC Regulatory Planning and External Affairs Rommel De Vicente said they have planned this project to help Mothers who needs blood.

Meanwhile, the BIWC had a head count yesterday to predetermine the possible number of blood donors, wherein they expect up fifty or seventy five people to donate their blood including BIWC’s employees.

The Philippine Red Cross is currently encouraging blood donors specially men to help their programs in giving support to mothers.

The blood donation drive will be held today in BIWC compound.
